Edinburgh Festival News!

Final Poster Rob Rouse_Are You Sitting Comfortably_Fringes_06.18 (1)Hello there dear person who might stumble across this. I hope it finds you well. I’m posting this to inform you and the relevant authorities that this year I will be doing two shows at the Edinburgh festival.

Both shows will be taking place between 2-12 August. I will be performing a stand-up show at 6.30 every evening at Just the Tonic at La Belle Angelle. It’s the show I’ve been touring for the last year paired down to the hour Edinburgh format. In a change from previous years, I’m ‘experimenting’ with a different ticket model, so you can buy an advance ticket for just £5 to ensure a seat, or, chance your arm and pay what you want on the way out. Apparently it’s what all the cool kids do nowadays so I thought at 44, I should get on board.

ALSO and very excitingly, I am doing a play with my wife Helen. She’s written it and has very kindly given me a part in it. It’s a funny and moving play about relationships and genuine glorious mess that life is. It’s a great piece of writing and it’s really exciting to be doing a play with her that blurs the boundaries between life and fiction and involves me having to shout at her, which I’m slowly coming to terms with through rehearsal. (Not being a shouter in real life)

We are performing it 2-12 August at 11.15am in the Gilded Balloon Teviot house, do come along and support the show, tickets are onsale here.

That’s about it for now, I’m off to practice my shouting and hope to see you up at the festival 🙂

Just a quick post to let you know that Upstart Crow Season 1 is now streaming on Netflix!

Series 2 is also now available to buy on DVD and there’s a Christmas special, with Emma Thompson which airs on Christmas day on BBC2 at 8.25 PM

I’ve got a handful of tour dates in the spring of 2018 and all being well should be doing a run at the Edinburgh Festival too.

Happy Christmas to you and yours 🙂

The Rob Rouse Podcast is now out there!

Hey there! I’m delighted to launch my new podcast. Here’s episode 1. I get my hair-cut by the brilliant songwriter and musician Gaz Coombes!

I spend a lot of time travelling, as I imagine you may do and in recent years I think podcasts have kept me sane as I plough up and down the country doing my gigs. So I thought it was time to put something into the podcast pot.

So the idea is I’m going to have entertaining and and interesting conversations with fascinating people while we’re doing something different.

So, we’re kicking off in rip roaring style with a superb first guest. It’s the truly brilliant musician and songwriter Gaz Coombes. You’ll no doubt know him from much loved chart-topping band Supergrass and more recently over the last 3 years or so he’s firmly established himself as a solo artist releasing two really fantastic records, his latest album ‘Matador’ has just been nominated for the Mercury Prize (which occurred just after this was recorded so we chatted again about that afterwards) It’s a such great record if you haven’t got it, grab a copy it’s just beautifully, crafted, soulful, amazing collection of songs, it’s just magic.

He’s also such a charming, funny and warm person and he came round and give me a haircut. during which we talked about all sorts of stuff and had a chicken dinner. Obviously that’s not how Parkinson does his interviews, but that’s how I did this one. And I think through the haircut we get into all sorts of stuff about creativity about the importance of making mistakes and also as I was listening back to it I realised how much fun it is to do something, when you really haven’t planned it out in any sense at all really and there’s also a great impromptu live performance from Gaz.

Please subscribe to the podcast on iTunes, so it plops into your inbox each weak-ish you can get in touch with the podcast by emailing me at podcast@robrouse.com or @robrouse on twitter. It’s that easy.

Super-importantly go see Gaz live, he’s out on the road through November and December, all dates are at gazcoombes.com.

OOp should mention there’s a couple of swears and one, maybe two burps, both mine both involuntary, but I left the in as they happened just as we were talking about the how rough edges and mistakes kind of give things a vibe or atmosphere, so it would have felt wrong to nip them out.

So here it is episode No1. Gaz Coombes cuts Rob’s hair. This was recorded in early October of 2015.

Enjoy!

Rob

Definitely not dead!

It has been brought to my attention that I haven’t updated my website in a shamefully long time. Perhaps what with twitter and Facebook I have neglected the old homesite, the nerve centre, the old school inter-hub. Either way, That ends now, and I shall put loads of new live dates up here ASAP.

But for the record I am still very much alive.

Me and my Mother-in-Law discussing Queens of The Stone Age on Xfm

One of my favourite parts of doing shows on Xfm is reviewing music with my Mother-in-law Jean ‘The Bean’. Jean wouldn’t mind me telling you that she’s 75, but she has a remarkably open mind when it comes to new ideas, including music. The folks at Xfm ended up sending this to QOTSA’s management, who then got back to us saying they’d played it to the band and that they were really moved, Josh Homme got choked up apparently! I couldn’t be prouder of Jean! have a listen.
